Child Worker—Camp Leader

Overview

Glencairn Church is hiring two mature, dependable youth or young adults to serve as camp leaders, with a primary focus on running the day‑to‑day operations of our children’s summer day camp and Sunday programming.

This role will be vital in supporting the needs within our community by planning and executing a four-week, full-day summer camp program. The role offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community outreach and team ministry within a non-profit environment.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading activities, supporting children and volunteers, and helping ensure the program runs smoothly. The position also includes end‑of‑summer wrap‑up tasks to support future planning and organization.

The successful candidate will work under the Youth Pastor and will act as an additional leadership presence during programming.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Camp Operations

  • Ensure stations and groups are set up before the start of each day
  • Help lead daily camp activities, games, and group time
  • Support supervision and care of children during programming hours
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment
  • Assist with transitions, schedules, and group management
  • Support volunteers and younger helpers during camp hours
  • Seek to develop positive relationships among team members and campers

Sunday Programming

  • Assist with running Sunday children’s programming throughout the summer
  • Help prepare rooms, materials, and activities
  • Support children during lessons, games, and crafts

Program Support & Wrap‑Up

  • Assist with setting up and cleaning up camp spaces
  • Help organize program materials, supplies, and resources, and organizing materials
  • Provide feedback for future planning and improvement

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Must embrace the Confession of Faith of the Mennonite Brethren Church
  • Experience working with children in a ministry or leadership context
  • Experience working with volunteers or diverse groups
  • Takes initiative and works collaboratively in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • A valid vulnerable sector check will be required

As this position is funded under the Canada Summer Jobs program, candidates must be:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or someone who has been officially given refugee protection in Canada
  • Be legally allowed to work in Canada, and have a valid social insurance number (SIN)
