Our Story

  • Glencairn Mennonite Brethren Church is a daughter church from Kitchener Mennonite Brethren (KMB) Church.
  • Glencairn Mennonite Brethren Church was conceived in early 1984 through a God given vision.
  • A Feasibility Committee was appointed, which presented a paper.  It was approved and recommended to “begin a new church at a new location”.
  • The purpose of this church plant was very clear, “to establish another place of witness and reach more people for Christ.”

Timeline: 

  • April 1985 – An Implementation Committee was formed
  • December 1985 – Our present location lot was purchased
  • 1986-1987 – Drawings, plans, permits, etc.
  • April 1987– Ground breaking celebration.
  • July 1987 – The name for the new church chosen: Glencairn Mennonite Brethren Church
  • November 1987 – Cornerstone Laying Ceremony
  • December 1987 – KMB celebrated a sending out of the new church as missionaries in our community
  • January 1988 – The first official service took place here at Glencairn
  • February 1988 – The first pastor couple, Paul & Anne Unger arrived
  • Mid 1990 – Paul & Anne Unger moved on to a new church plant.
  • Late fall 1990 – Henry & Agy Petkau came on interim basis to provide leadership
  • August 1991 – Glencairn called Mark and Sharon Johnson.
  • October 1999 – Glencairn went through a time of Refocusing.
  • May 2000 – Glencairn accepted three recommendations:
    • To become more intentional and prayerful
    • Promote disciple making
    • Evaluate the ministries and programs
  • May 2001 – Pastor of Discipleship Bill Stubbs
  • Fall of 2001 – Mark Johnson became the Ontario MB Conference minister
  • August 2002 – Ross Penner, called to become the Lead Pastor
  • September 2006 – Ben Cassels starts as Glencairn’s pastor to youth
  • December 2007 – Ross Penner finishes his ministry at Glencairn
  • June 2008 – Bill Stubbs becomes lead Pastor
  • February, 2010 – Kevin Lewis became our Equipping Pastor of Youth and Adult Ministries
  • Jan-April 2013 – Church goes through another refocussing process, which clarifies Mission, Vision and Values
  • June 2013 – Church celebrates Bill Stubbs’ retirement
  • August 2013 – Kevin Lewis finishes his ministry at Glencairn
  • Dec 2013 – Richard Martens is hired as lead pastor based on refocusing initiatives
  • Aug 2014 – Ingrid Reichard is hired as Pastor of Development
  • Sept 2014 – Jon Cleland is hired as part time Youth Pastor Intern
  • March 2016 – Growing to Serve, our new building plan, gets a green light and necessary funding.
